Located in Maryland’s Eastern Shore Region on the banks of the Chesapeake Bay, the picturesque city of Cambridge takes 45th place in our list of most dangerous cities in the USA.

Historically, Dorchester county’s largest municipality is one of Maryland’s oldest colonial cities, settled by English colonists towards the end of the 17th century. These new settlers developed farming, with the biggest plantations focusing on tobacco. In the 19th century, industrialization turned the city into a food processing hub, with the proliferation of canneries bringing in as many as 10,000 workers into its populace.

Today, Cambridge’s economy is boosted by its vibrant tourist industry. But just like in other places frequented by tourists, crime also seems to take root, as evidenced by Cambridge’s violent crime index. In 2017, 1,299 incidents of violent crime were reported for every 100,000 of its residents.
