The suburban city of East Point, Georgia got its name for being the final and Easternmost stop of the Atlanta & West Point Railroad. It was founded in 1870 but spread out rapidly to become an industrial hub for cotton mills, distilleries, and lumber. By the 21st century, East Point’s economy has expanded, with more residences and businesses having been developed around it.
Sadly, East Point hasn’t been immune to the proliferation of crime. In 2017, the city reported 1,309 incidents of violent crime for every 100,000 of its residents.
