Surrounded completely by the City of Detroit, Highland Park Michigan shares the same story of urban decline with what was once the automobile manufacturing capital of America. Fiscal problems have hounded the city since 2001 and because of that, public services and utilities began to decline, causing a surge in Highland Park’s crime rate.
The city’s peace and order situation remains unchanged today, with highland park’s violent crime rate being almost 5 times higher than that of the US average.
