Despite Opa-Locka, Florida’s decreasing crime rate in the past years, the city, belonging to Miami Dade county, still has a spot in the most dangerous cities list, this following a 2017 FBI report on criminality. Violent crime incidents averaged 1,950 per 100,000 residents, most of which were assaults. 44.9% of its residents live in poverty as only 5 out of 100 people there have jobs.
Because of the sad peace and order situation in the city, crime in Opa-Locka remains high as residents often resort to crime to make ends meet.
