Bogalusa, Louisiana, an industrial city established in 1902 as a company town of the Great Southern Lumber Company, is next on our list of dangerous cities in the USA.

The town was developed in the early 1900s to provide housing and services for the many workers who operated what was, at the time, the largest lumber mill world. Its rapid construction earned it the nickname, “Magic City,” after architect Rathbone DeBuys of New Orleans designed and built it from the ground up in less than a year.

Nowadays, the city’s poor financial health has caused basic services for its 12,000 residents to suffer, and along with it, the town’s peace and order. In 2017, 1,298 incidents of violent crime for every 100,000 of its residents, were reported, earning it a spot in this notorious list.
