If you are planning on going on a long drive along New Mexico’s Scenic Byways, then you’ll probably pass through the next town on our list of dangerous cities in the USA because of its high crime rate that is 3 times that of the national average.

Once a popular location in the 1940s and 1950s for Hollywood Westerns, Gallup was also a former railhead for the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad, whose paymaster, David Gallup, became the town’s namesake during its foundation in 1881. Its rich Native American history has it listed on the Trails of the Ancients Byway which is a guide to the prehistoric and ancient archeological and geologic sites of northwestern New Mexico.
