8. Memphis, Tennessee
Memphis, Tennessee is better known for its music scene, the blues on Beale Street more like it. But aside from being Elvis’s birth state, and Martin Luther King Jr.’s place of assassination, it also holds one of the higher ranks of most dangerous cities with America. Once again, high poverty rates and a penchant for violence and homicides, Memphis is fun to visit, albeit while being careful, it may not necessarily be the best place to settle down.
Crime and financial strain are the top two reasons why Memphis made this list. Over a quarter of its 652,000 residents seek better ways to live, shunning the violence that further burdens their already difficult circumstances. Memphis crime ranks 4th among all other cities in the United States, with rates beating the national average five times over.
