Thousands Eventually Died

USSR reports claim that those that died from the initial blast were ‘30 men and one female security guard,’ but there would be another 4000 who would suffer from radiation exposure as time went on. Some of those affected were from the continuous cleanup efforts, while some were those living in the areas nearby, while others were journalists and doctors who came to the scene to report about it or to help out those in need.
