When the areas of the brain that control the different parts of the mouth are damaged in MS, such as the areas that move the lips, tongue, soft palate, and cheeks, a patient’s ability to talk properly can be affected, causing their speech to become slurred. These problems may come and go, often worsening gradually, depending on how active their Multiple Sclerosis is.
