22. Melody the Tapir bit off zookeeper’s arm.

Tapirs are exotic animals but seem gentle enough for humans to be wary of. However, this notion was proved wrong when Melody the Malaysian tapir attacked zookeeper Lisa Morehead while she was feeding the mammal. Lisa went inside the animal’s pen when it was feeding time. Nothing seemed unusual that moment. But something Lisa did or something else must have agitated the animal. The animal turned aggressive.

The animal bit Lisa in the arm with its powerful jaws. Lisa fought back. She attempted to pull her arm free. But because the animal’s bite was so powerful, her arm was torn off at the bicep and she sustained injuries to the face from the animal’s bite. Her vital organs were also severely punctured by the animal’s sharp teeth.
