Harambe’s story is another stark reminder of how accidents could happen anytime in a zoo. Kids are especially vulnerable if left wandering around unsupervised. The 17-year old gorilla’s death was a subject of long debates as to whether it was necessary to kill the mammal when a boy fell into its den. The boy was reported to have been wandering alone when his parents looked away, even though they were nearby. The issue on whether or not he had to be put down lingered on mainstream media an on the internet.
