6. Gu Gu, the giant panda, a notorious resident of the zoo

Pandas are thought to be harmless, but one male giant panda named Gu Gu proved that wrong, at least with the gory incidents in which he was involved. The animal was a notorious resident of Beijing Zoo in China. He was a repeat offender, viciously attacking visitors and zookeepers, leaving them with horrifying injuries. He was known for gnawing off the flesh of some of the victims, but the attacks were mostly caused by provoking the animal. In one incident, a drunk 35-year old Zhang Xinyan, managed to break into the panda’s enclosure to cuddle with Gu Gu.

Instead, he sustained injuries from the 240-pound vicious bites on his legs. In another incident, during the animal’s feeding time, a 15-year old boy named Li Xitao ended up in its enclosure. The boy was severely injured with the bones in his legs exposed when the flesh around it was bitten off. Another victim, Zhang, jumped into Gu Gu’s enclosure to retrieve his kid’s toy which fell into it. The panda grabbed Zhang by the leg so viciously that it took several workers to free the poor guy’s leg from the panda’s powerful jaws with tools.
