41. Death by tiger attack in Cumbria
Twenty-four-year-old Sarah McClay worked at the South Lakes Wild Animal Park near Dalton-in-Furness where she was fatally attacked by a tiger. Because of a faulty enclosure lock, a Sumatran tiger was able to sneak into an area where Sarah was doing her routine cleaning work. Sarah was fully unaware of the impending attack that was to take her life.
As she bent over with her back to the tiger, the animal suddenly pounced on her and grabbed her by the back of her neck. The animal then dragged her back to its den where Sarah died of her injuries.
