24. Zookeeper mauled to death by tiger after leaving the enclosure’s door open
One of the first things you need to keep in mind when working at a zoo is to make sure you’re inside a secure area where the animals couldn’t reach you and that the door to that area should be secured at all times. Unfortunately, one zoo staff forgot that safety rule. Gong, a zookeeper at a zoo in Yichun city in China, was killed after being viciously attacked by a tiger while inside the animal’s enclosure.
She was cleaning the tiger’s enclosure while the animal was being fed in the feeding area. Unknown to her, the door separating the enclosure from the feeding area was left opened. It was found out that the animal was not yet domesticated.
