Two Explorers Who Attempted To Tackle Mount Everest

George Mallory and Andrew Irvine were two explorers who attempted to scale the world’s tallest peak, Mt. Everest during the early part of the 20th century. They would have been the first to climb the behemoth, having equipped themselves with the best gear that money could buy at the time. Unfortunately, the pair failed to do so and disappeared along the trip to the summit. Their bodies remained missing for decades until the discovery of Mallory’s body by an expedition group in 1999. Irvine’s remains have never been found.

A Priest Who Attempted To Fly With 600 Balloons

In an attempt to beat the world record for cluster ballooning, 42 year-old Brazilian priest Adelir Antonio de Carli lost his life after spending over 19 hours airborne using his contraption made of 600 balloons. He disappeared for months without a trace and later, pieces of the priest’s body washed up ashore, making people believe that he could have flown far out to sea, with others fearing that he could have ended up as far as Argentina, just like in his previous preparation attempts.
