William Henry Harrison was the 9th President of the United States, and the last President born as a British subject. Harrison was a war hero, fighting indian forces in the Battle of Tippecanoe. He earned the nickname “Old Tippecanoe” among several others. He was 68 years during his inauguration, making him the 3rd oldest to become President, behind Donald Trump and Ronald Reagan. He was the first President to die in office, and had the shortest tenure ever at 31 days. He died of typhoid and pneumonia. His last words, assumed to be directed at Vice President John Tyler, were “ Sir, I wish you to understand the true principles of the government. I wish them carried out. I ask nothing more.” He died nearly penniless. His wife was given a presidential widow’s pension of $25,000, the amount of one year’s salary for the president. She was also given the privilege to mail letters free of charge.
