Warren Gamaliel Harding was the 29th President of the US from 1921 until his death in 1923. He was one of the most popular presidents then, until his death brought out a number of scandals  including an extramarital affair, and the Teapot Dome, a bribery scandal. He died of a heart attack in San Francisco while on a western tour. His death came as a great shock to the nation. Most Americans had followed his illness closely and had been reassured of his apparent recovery. His body was taken to his train in a casket for a journey across the nation. Nine million people lined up at the tracks as his body was taken from San Francisco to Washington, D.C.
