The 5th President of the US, James Monroe was the last president who was a Founding Father of the United States, and the last president of the Virginia dynasty and the Republican Generation. He served in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. He studied law under Thomas Jefferson, won election to the Senate in 1790, but left in 1794 to serve as President Washington’s ambassador to France. He became President in 1817 until 1825.
