Millard Filmore was the 13th President of the United States…the last Whig president, and the last president not to be affiliated with either the Democratic or Republican parties. Being the son of sharecroppers, he wasn’t able to attend school but studied on his own. He soon became a lawyer…but with no formal training. I Buffalo, New York, he became a respected lawyer and politician, and eventually ran as vice-president with Zachary Taylor for president. They won, but when Taylor died, Filmore was shoved into the hot seat…lets just say his policies were not popular.
