Wilson was the 28th President of the US from 1913 to 1921. Prior to being elected as President, he served as the Governor of New Jersey from 1911 to 1913, and led his Democratic Party to win control of both the White House and Congress in 1912. He led the United States into World War I in 1917. He asked Congress for a declaration of war against Germany, after Germany implemented a policy of unrestricted submarine warfare. Congress complied. He was the first Southerner to be elected President after the Civil War. He was considered by historians as one of the nation’s greatest presidents. He was responsible for the progressive reforms that included the establishment of the Federal Reserve and the Federal Trade Commission.
