Stephen Grover Cleveland was the 22nd and 24th President of the U.S., the only president in American history to serve two non-consecutive terms in office (1885-89, 1893-97). He was also one of the two Democrats to be elected president during the era of the Republican dynasty dating from 1861 to 1933. He was the leader of the pro-business Bourbon Democrats. He won praise for his honesty, integrity, and self-reliance. His second term saw the disaster- Panic of 1893, a nationwide depression which he was not able to reverse, ruining his Democratic Party.
