Andrew Jackson was the 7th President of the US. He served as a American soldier, and then as a statesman. He was a popular general, and served both houses of Congress. Remembered for his victory in 1815 at The Battle of New Orleans. But as president he was also known for the unpopular Indian Removal Act of 1830, which forcibly “relocated” members of the Native American tribes in the south to “Indian Territory”. This resulted in widespread death and disease. Upon his retirement from the presidency, he remained active in Democratic Party politics, supporting the presidencies of Martin Van Buren and James K. Polk.
