Onboard the Titanic were a crew of 885 and a mere 23 were female.  699 boarded in Southampton and four out of ten were natives of the English town.  The ship’s captain, Edward Smith, went down with the vessel.  The Captain’s infamous last words were: “Well boys, you’ve done your duty and done it well. I ask no more of you.  I release you.  You know the rule of the sea. It’s every man for himself now, and God bless you.” According to records, during the voyage, the Titanic received six warnings about the iceberg.  It was reported that most of the crew perished with the Titanic. It is but fitting that James Cameron paid homage to them in the final scenes of his epic movie.
