Morgan Robertson was an American author of short stories and novels and the self-proclaimed inventor of the periscope.  In Morgan Robertson’s novel entitled “Futility,” its plot delves on the uncanny resemblance to the Titanic disaster.  The novel tells the story of the Titan, the largest ship ever built, that was billed as “unsinkable.”  In the book, more than half the passengers die because of a lifeboat shortage.  His book, “The Wreck of the Titan,” was published 14 years before the Titanic sank.  Following the sinking of the Titanic, the novel was reissued with some revisions particularly the vessel’s heavy tonnage.
