Cry for Distress

According to accounts, hundreds of passengers and crew went into the icy water.  Fearful of being swamped by the chaos, those in the lifeboats delayed returning to pick up survivors.  The Titanic took on 400 tons of water per minute after it hit the iceberg.  The freezing water filled the bow of the shop first which caused the stern to lift up into the air and eventually break off.  It must have been a horrifying sight?! In a distress call, it was reported that the SS California ignored the distress signal of the Titanic.  The Captain and its crew were highly criticized.  Eventually, SS California was sunk three years later by a German submarine.
