At the time, the RMS Titanic was the world’s largest passenger ship. It measures 269 meters or 882 feet in length, and considered that largest man-made moving object on Earth. Conversely, the ship burned around 600 tons of coal a day which was hand shoveled into its furnaces by a crew of 176 men. Given this, almost 100 tons of ash where ejected into the sea every 24 hours.
