Head On

According to some theories, if the Titanic had hit the iceberg head on, the vessel probably would have survived because of the strength of the bulkheads.  Meanwhile, the crew failed to fire correct distress signals after hitting the iceberg.  Apparently, random rockets were fired but the rockets’ pattern never signaled “distress.”  The incorrect rocket pattern signaled to any ship in the area the message: “I’m having navigation problem. Please stand clear.” As attempts were made to contact nearby ships, the lifeboats began to launch, with order of women and children first.  The Titanic’s number of lifeboats exceeded the requirements by the British Board of Trade, its 20 lifeboats could carry only 1,178 people which is far short from the actual number of passengers.
