The Titanic was constructed in the shipyard of Harland and Wolff in Belfast, Northern Ireland.  During its launch on May 31, 1911, it was reported that 100,000 people turned-up to the see the Titanic.  It was indeed a man-made marvel at that time that was heralded by many as the “Unsinkable Ship.”  It was one of the largest and most lavish ships ever built in the world.  It had a huge send-off from Belfast, Ireland.  At that time, Belfast was the fastest growing city in the British Empire, with the largest ship-building firm in the world.  Today, evidence of this progressive era can still be seen throughout the city.
